Are you wanting to book a photo shoot for your child? How will they get them to smile? Will they scream the whole time? Will someone ever be able to get good pictures of my children? These are all questions you may be asking yourself. They are definitely questions I have asked. As a mom of 2 very strong willed children I know the struggle, but trust me it will all be worth it when you see those pictures. Now before you postpone those pictures any longer here are some tips to fend off any anxieties.

In order to have a photo shoot you must schedule it. If possible choose the time of day when your child is in their best mood typically. Also do your best to arrive on time so you don’t lose any of your scheduled time. Account for traffic and add in extra time just in case. Now that you have scheduled that perfect time, How do you prepare?

The number one easier said than done answer is to relax. Yes I know it is a small miracle to have everyone looking their best and in a good mood, but then add arriving on time with all necessities and it’s seems impossible (or maybe that is just me). Do as much prep ahead of time. I like to lay out all outfits and everything we may need. With babies, bottles, pacifiers, and loveys are great tools. If you have toddlers or young school age children a toy and a snack are super helpful. Now that you are prepared and on your way, what will the photographer expect?

As a photographer the thing I wish parents would do most is relax. Yes I said that horrible word again. And Yes I know how hard that is. If parents are anxious, children can sense it. If you are relaxed they are more likely to follow your lead. Now you want your child to be on their best behavior, of course. However, I might get a great photo of them being themselves while they aren’t listening 100%. Step back and let your child get comfortable. If you are in the pictures, focus on being photo ready 100% of the time. This will make it much easier to catch that perfect shot. I tend to give my children a little space to have fun (as long as they are in the realm of safe non interruptive behavior) during photo shoots so that flows through to the final result. Now you are all set for that photo shoot that you have been avoiding.
